This project is designed to gather Wikipedians interested in Poland-related content, tools designed to help them, and offer a centralized place for relevant announcements and discussions.
If that sounds useful or fun, please watchlist this page and add your name to the participants list below.

This project prefers the English language. Please see the talk page for the noticeboard and ongoing discussions.

Our articles

[edit]

We take care of the tens of thousands of articles, about 88,000 at last count – that's close to 2% of all articles on the English Wikipedia! Here is a breakdown by quality and importance:

This category contains pages that have been rated as "WikiProject" by the Poland task force of WikiProject Military history and WikiProject Poland. Pages are automatically placed in this category when the corresponding rating is given and the appropriate parameter is added to the project banner template; please see the project banner instructions and the assessment department for more information.

You are welcome to add more articles we missed to our project, and assess them. See #Templates for how to add articles to that list, Wikipedia:WikiProject Poland/Assessment for information on assessment, and Wikipedia:WikiProject Poland/Reviews for current requests for a B-class review.

Naming conventions

[edit]

For guidelines on article naming and style, see the Wikipedia:Manual of Style (Poland-related articles) page (shortcut WP:MOSPOL).

[edit]

If you want to upload a possibly public-domain Polish image, see here for a guide on what is in the public domain, and which license templates to use.

Articles in need of improvement

[edit]

Articles tagged with various issues are listed in a sortable list at here (the on-wiki listing is no longer actively maintained). As of December 2010, 12570 or 18.7% were marked for cleanup. As of September 2012 that grew to 14790 or 20.3 % of (the also growing) total.

A frequently updated list of unreferenced biographies of living persons is here. As of September 2011, we have eliminated the backlog there, and as of September 2012, the list usually has between 0 to 2 articles. Adding referencing to living person bios is one of Wikipedia's priorities.

Templates

[edit]
  • Template:WikiProject Poland (short: }, full syntax: {{WikiProject Poland|class=|importance=}}) is our assessment template. Please add it to the talk pages of all Poland-related articles, it is a key template that enables the article to be included in our article news, popularity ranking, project watchlist deletion discussion notifications the nifty quality and importance tables we have at the top of this page and other tools.
  • } creates a citation with a link to the GUS/TERYT website, as well as instructions in English of how to perform a search
  • Use } for Polish words or phrases, thus: {{lang|pl|Gmina Świnice Warckie}} will produce Gmina Świnice Warckie
  • The } template can be used to produce representations of Polish pronunciation.
  • When marking sources in Polish language, use } to produce (in Polish)
  • There is also a Portal:Poland/Welcome message box that can be used to notify new users about this noticeboard and our related projects. Just slap }--~~~~ on their usertalkpage – it has its own heading.
  • use } to link Polish language wikiquote pages (often found on Polish Wikipedia articles). The full syntax is {{wikiquotelang|pl|article name|article name}} (yes, it seems you need to use the article's name twice), for example {{wikiquotelang|pl|Stanisław Koniecpolski|Stanisław Koniecpolski}}
  • use } just like Wikiquotelang above but for linking to Polish Wikisource articles.
  • Various other, less used templates are listed at Category:Poland templates

Userboxes

[edit]

Please note we have three functioning userboxes:

Use: }
Use: }
Use: }

You may also want to check the following userboxes:

This user comes from Poland.
Use: }
This user has
Polish ancestry.
Use: }
This user is interested in Poland
Use: }
This user hails from the homeland of vodka.
Use: }

You can also declare your knowledge of the Polish language with the WP:BABEL templates, such as:

plPolski jest językiem ojczystym tego użytkownika.
Use: }

For non-native speakers of Polish, just use User pl-1 (beginner) to pl-5 (professional)

Awards

[edit]

In the spirit of kindness and recognition we strongly encourage the use of the following barnstars, awards and assorted goodies:

Image What to type Description Ribbon
The Barnstar of National Merit } The Barnstar of National Merit

The Barnstar of National Merit may be awarded to an editor who contributes significantly to expand or improve Wikipedia's coverage of any given country.
It may also be awarded to those who create a particularly fine article on the subject of Geography.

The Poland Barnstar } The Poland Barnstar is an award placed on another user's talk page for improving Poland-related articles.
The Polish Barnstar of National Merit, 1st Class } The Polish Barnstar of National Merit, 1st Class

The Polish Barnstar of National Merit, 1st Class is a specific variant of the Barnstar of National Merit, which may be awarded to editors who contributed significantly to expanding or improving Wikipedia's coverage of Poland. The 1st Class award should be used for very significant contributions (for example, getting an article to FA level). In most cases, the 2nd Class (below) will be sufficient. As a rule of thumb, somebody should have already received a 2nd Class award before being eligible for the 1st Class.

The Polish Barnstar of National Merit, 2nd Class } The Polish Barnstar of National Merit, 2nd Class

The Polish Barnstar of National Merit, 2nd Class is a specific variant of Barnstar of National Merit, which may be awarded to editors who contributed significantly to expand or improve Wikipedia's coverage of Poland. The 2nd Class can be given for various reasons, but if the contributor has done something really significant, and has already received this award, consider giving him or her a 1st Class award (above).

The Rosetta Barnstar } The Rosetta Barnstar

The Rosetta Barnstar may be given to any editor who exhibits outstanding translation efforts on Wikipedia. In the case of the Poland-related Wikipedia notice board, of course, translations to or from the Polish language are most relevant.

See also pl:Wikipedia:Odznaczenia Wikipedii for other awards designed on Polish Wikipedia!

We also encourage the use of other awards for non-Poland specific contributions to Wikipedia!
