Yip Hon Weng[a] (born 1977)[1] is a Singaporean politician who had spent 17 years in the Singapore's Administrative Service across the Ministries of Manpower, Defence, National Development, Health and the Prime Minister's Office prior to politics. He is currently a Director at Temasek where he works on human capital strategies and workforce transformation across the firm’s portfolio companies. A member of the governing People's Action Party (PAP), he has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Yio Chu Kang Single Member Constituency (SMC) since 2020.[1]
Education
[edit]Yip graduated from Loughborough University with a bachelor's degree with First class Honours in Physical Education, Sports Science and Mathematics under Public Service Commission (PSC) overseas scholarship.[2]
He also obtained a PGCE from the University of Exeter, and subsequently went on to complete master's degrees in; Administration, Planning & Social Policy and International Education (Double Concentrations) at Harvard University; Knowledge Engineering at the National University of Singapore; and Financial Engineering at the Nanyang Technological University, as well as a stint at Carnegie Mellon University working on Computational Finance.
Yip is also a Sloan Fellow and has completed a Master of Business Administration degree at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology under the Administrative Service Postgraduate Scholarship conferred by the Singapore Government.[2]
Career

[edit]Yip began his career in the Ministry of Education's Higher Education Division, before serving in the Ministry of Manpower (MOM)'s Foreign Workforce Policy Department from 2006 to 2007 and subsequently in the Defence Policy Office at the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) between 2007 to 2011. Following which, he joined the Ministry of Health (MOH) as the Director of the Ageing Planning Office and Director of the Smart Regulation Division from 2011 to 2013.
Yip later joined the Ministry of National Development (MND), where he served as Senior Director and Founding Director of the Municipal Services Office from 2014 to 2018, leading its establishment and early operations. Between 2018 and 2020, he concurrently held appointments as Group Chief of the Silver Generation Office at the Agency for Integrated Care, where he oversaw a network of 3,500 ambassadors to engage over 500,000 seniors from the Pioneer and Merdeka Generations, as well as Advisor (Care Integration) at the Ministry of Health, where he spearheaded the Ageing Planning Office to develop Singapore’s ageing strategy.
He currently serves as a Director at Temasek, where he focuses on human capital strategies, plans and policy at the eco-system level, as well as early-stage deep tech investments.
Politics
[edit]Yip was fielded in the 2020 general election as a solo PAP candidate contesting in Yio Chu Kang SMC against the Progress Singapore Party (PSP).[3]
On 11 July 2020, Yip was declared an elected Member of Parliament (MP) representing Yio Chu Kang SMC in the 14th Parliament after garnering almost 61% of the vote against PSP's Kayla Low.[4]
In the 2025 general election, Yip ran for reelection in Yio Chu Kang SMC against People's Alliance for Reform's candidate Michael Fang Amin.[5][6][7]
On 4 May 2025, Yip was re-elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) representing Yio Chu Kang SMC in the 15th Parliament after garnering 78.75% of the vote against Fang's 21.25%.[8]
Yip is the Chairman of the Government Parliamentary Committee for Defence and Foreign Affairs. He is the Vice Chairman of the Government Parliamentary Committee for Health. He is in the Public Accounts Committee in Parliament.
Personal life
