Wikipedia:Teahouse host entry
[edit]Hi Quxyz,
Are you still active on the Teahouse? I noticed you are listed on Wikipedia:Teahouse/Host landing under your old username. Your old page redirects to your new, so it's not a broken link, but it might be confusing to newbies that your current posts would not correspond to your /Hosts entry. DMacks (talk) 01:49, 26 December 2025 (UTC)
I respond from time to time. I somewhat forgot about that page. I'll update that. Thanks for notifying me! ✶Quxyz✶ (talk) 01:50, 26 December 2025 (UTC)Disambiguation link notification for December 30
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Hurricane Melissa, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Le Nouvelliste. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Temporary account IP viewer
[edit]Hey, since you're fairly active in antiabuse, I suggest requesting TAIV over at WP:PERM/TAIV. Toadspike [Talk] 11:46, 2 January 2026 (UTC)
@Toadspike I am really only there for A5 and maybe LokiCat. I don't want to collect hats that I may only use rather infrequently. ✶Quxyz✶ (talk) 14:47, 2 January 2026 (UTC) TAIV is quite helpful for LokiCat, but in the end it's up to you :) Toadspike [Talk] 16:30, 2 January 2026 (UTC) I'll consider it. Thanks for the suggestion! ✶Quxyz✶ (talk) 16:31, 2 January 2026 (UTC)Temporary account IP viewer granted
[edit]Hello, Quxyz. Per your request, your account has been granted temporary-account-viewer rights. You are now able to reveal the IP addresses of individuals using temporary accounts that are not visible to the general public. This is very sensitive information that is only to be used to aid in anti-abuse workflows. Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Temporary account IP viewer for more information on this user right. It is important to remember:
- You must not share IP address data with someone who does not have the same access permissions unless disclosure is permissible as per guidelines listed at Foundation:Policy:Wikimedia Access to Temporary Account IP Addresses Policy.
- Access must not be used for political control, to apply pressure on editors, or as a threat against another editor in a content dispute. There must be a valid reason to investigate a temporary user. Note that using multiple temporary accounts is not forbidden, so long as they are not used in violation of policies (for example, block or ban evasion).
It is also important to note that the following actions are logged for others to see:
- When a user accepts the preference that enables or disables IP reveal for their account.
- Revealing an IP address of a temporary account.
- Listing the temporary accounts that are associated with one or more IP addresses (using the CIDR notation format).
Remember, even if a user is violating policy, avoid revealing personal information if possible. Use temporary account usernames rather than disclosing IP addresses directly, or give information such as same network/not same network or similar. If you do not want the user right anymore then please ask me or another administrator and it will be removed for you. You may also voluntarily give up access at any time by visiting Special:Preferences. Happy editing! Toadspike [Talk] 18:44, 2 January 2026 (UTC)
Question, how specific can I get with the geolocating? Using A5 as an example, can I mention that it geolocates to Long Island or do I need to be more broad? ✶Quxyz✶ (talk) 18:49, 2 January 2026 (UTC) Generally you shouldn't say where exactly somebody is (unless absolutely necessary). Wording like "similar location to previous socks" or "these two TAs geolocate near each other" is enough, and others with TAIV or admins can check your work. A5 seems to be using proxies nowadays, so TAIV isn't quite as illuminating as it used to be (though not useless). Remember that behavioral evidence is key, and admins will block when the behavior matches even if TAIV seems to say they're in different places. Toadspike [Talk] 19:08, 2 January 2026 (UTC) Man I can never edit on my own account with over 10,000 edits on a VPN. I wonder how A5 is doing it. ✶Quxyz✶ (talk) 19:09, 2 January 2026 (UTC) To interrupt, of a lot of the IPs blocked recently, only like 2 were proxies, despite the frequent usage of {{blocked proxy}} as the blocking summary. Most are just public wifi networks (think coffee shops, Dunkin' (a favorite of A5), malls (Macy's was recently rangeblocked as a webhost), restaurants, or basically any unsecured wifi network (a travel agency with presumably open wifi has been repeatedly blocked over several years). Temporary account viewer is still very useful, just remember to use WHOIS, as it will show you some information that geolocation won't, and its geolocation sometimes is more accurate than whatismyipaddress. All the best, CutlassCiera 15:27, 3 January 2026 (UTC) Thank you for the tips! ✶Quxyz✶ (talk) 15:37, 3 January 2026 (UTC)Jan/Feb new article notifications

Tropical Storm Jerry (2025) resurrected
[edit]Hey there, I wanted to let you know that I have resurrected Jerry 25 in my sandbox here. I know there was consensus against re-splitting Jerry back in October, but I believe it may have enough info to warrant an article given its size now. Should I merge this content to Draft:Tropical Storm Jerry (2025) and take it to Afc? Or is it fine if I copy paste all the info to Tropical Storm Jerry (2025)? I am still kind of hesitant on what to do, given that there was a previous consensus that this storm was not notable. I just want your opinion on this, seeing as you were the original author of the article before it was merged. Jpuxfrd (talk) 20:50, 22 January 2026 (UTC)
@Jpuxfrd I'll do a deeper review later as I am a bit busy now. However, Jerry is probably the most eligible storm in the season that lacks an article right now. ✶Quxyz✶ (talk) 20:54, 22 January 2026 (UTC) @Jpuxfrd The current draft is longer and larger than Hurricane Gabrielle (2025), which I feel is around the threshold for a notable tropical cyclone. It seems like it could be split but I would also issue a split proposal on the main season's talk page as I am slightly on the more lenient side of splitting articles. ✶Quxyz✶ (talk) 23:18, 22 January 2026 (UTC) @Quxyz Alright then, should I copy paste the info from Jerry into Draft:Tropical Storm Jerry (2025) or keep it in my sandbox? Jpuxfrd (talk) 23:45, 22 January 2026 (UTC) The sandbox should be fine; the page will be merged anyways. Be sure to link the sandbox in your rationale for splitting. Also, now that I am thinking about it, you might want to request a merging of the histories for copyright purposes. ✶Quxyz✶ (talk) 23:49, 22 January 2026 (UTC) Okay, I've started an official split discussion. If editors agree that this page should exist, I will request the merging of the histories. Jpuxfrd (talk) 00:20, 23 January 2026 (UTC)Hi Quxyz, just a friendly reminder to make sure you clean up links after performing an undiscussed move. There were twenty or so DAB links to Ophion after the move to Ophion (god). Thanks, Michael Aurel (talk) 04:40, 23 January 2026 (UTC)
@Michael Aurel Apologies for that! I fixed a link to a template and then waited for the tool to reload and then forgot about it. ✶Quxyz✶ (talk) 11:03, 23 January 2026 (UTC) No problem at all. – Michael Aurel (talk) 16:08, 23 January 2026 (UTC)
