Montreal question
[edit]While I've found numerous valid sources for the statement that alderman Joseph Schubert temporarily served as acting mayor of Montreal in 1927, I can't find a source which explains why the city needed an acting mayor in the first place. Specifically, I can't find any sources which explain what, if anything, would have interrupted Médéric Martin's term in office. I tried looking for sources as well but I turned up nothing. Joseph Schubert is mentioned in a surprisingly small number of places. If the archives of the Montreal Star were posted online, we might have more luck. While it appears he was appointed to the position in August 1927, this article on the city of Montreal's website mentions Martin being at the inauguration of a public bath on August 31, 1927. I'm wondering if Schubert was actually appointed as mayor Pro tempore (known in French as a "pro-maire" or "maire suppléant") rather than as an acting mayor.
