Hi, need to understand why my IP address is blocked, however there has been no spam edit from my side as mentioned. ~2026-11947-51 (talk) 08:02, 23 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, you're probably not the target. You're on a large busy network but other people on the network have been making edits like this. You can create an account to avoid the problem. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 11:01, 23 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Page protection request

[edit]

Hi! Saw that you undid some LTA edits on my user page. Thank you for that! Mind also ECP-ing my userpage? It's now becoming a repeated pattern that I am being harrassed by Andrew5 socks. See also request here. Casspedia (talk) 15:48, 23 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@Casspedia Done. Sorry you're having to put up with that nonsense. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 15:52, 23 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for blocking the vandal, who wrecked this page!   ~ DatPolishHamster  15:48, 23 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Could you amend this user's block rationale to clarify that they are a sock? Currently there is no block rationale listed. TheTechie[she/they] | talk? 17:18, 23 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@TheTechie there's no need. The account is globally blocked now anyway but the reason for the block would be immediately obvious to any reviewing admin. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 18:22, 23 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Bywater deletion

[edit]

Hi, HJ. I hope you can help. I had an article flagged for speedy deletion and then deleted as it was deemed to be advertising. I hadn't expected the page to be published (been away a while). The administrator who deleted it is refusing to restore it to my userspace as a draft. I'd like to correct the promotional piece and retain the useful content. Best regards, Paul JPaulSimpson (talk) 10:06, 24 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@JPaulSimpson Hi Paul, forgive me for being blunt but I agree with BusterD. That wasn't a draft of an encyclopaedia article, it was an advert; in fact, if you told me you'd copied it from the "about us" section of the company website I'd believe you. If you really want to write an acceptable encyclopaedia article, you should start from scratch. But bear in mind that an encyclopaedia is not interested in what the company says about itself, only what reputable third parties (journalists, academics, writers) say about it. If none of those have written about the company in detail, then it does not meet the criteria for inclusion. Also, if you have anything to do with Bywater, you need to read and comply with the conflict of interest guideline. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 11:07, 24 February 2026 (UTC)[reply] Forgive me for being blunt but you are the third respondent who does not seem to have read a word that I have said. I have been away from Wikipedia for a little while and went through the page on writing your first article. It said my article wouldn't be published but would remain as a draft. That didn't happen. I know the article needed work and would like to do this on the draft. It seems you are the third person unwilling to help. I guess I'll just have to start again and recreate all the links and citations. It seems you guys are all coralling the wagons. Assume good faith is laughable. I'll bear that in mind when I republish. You're right that I'm connected to Bywater. It's a small industry. I'm more of a student of the industry and a commentator. I'd send some links but have wasted enough time with immoderate moderators. JPaulSimpson (talk) 22:29, 25 February 2026 (UTC)[reply] @JPaulSimpson: I read and considered closely. I just agree with the original decision. Your draft was unsalvageable advertising copy, not an encyclopaedia article, and I doubt Bywater meets our criteria for inclusion. That's why you're meeting such resistance. Compare and contrast your draft (I won't restore it but I can email you the wikitext if you want) to, for example, HCL Axon which is linked from it. The references there are all third-party, mostly reputable outlets, and the article reflects what those sources say about the company, not what the company says about itself. That company probably just about scrapes through the criteria for inclusion (inclusion on the FTSE 250 used to automatically merit an article but the requirements have been tightened in recent years) and that's what it takes. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 17:30, 26 February 2026 (UTC)[reply] All I have ever asked for is the text back! I have never questioned the deletion basis. I had expected the article to stay asva draft. My mistake. Thanks for the info about FTSE and external links. At last something I can work with. Thank you. What did you think about the section on auditor training? JPaulSimpson (talk) 17:55, 26 February 2026 (UTC)[reply] @JPaulSimpson I've emailed you the text. If I'd known that was all you were asking for I would have done it straight away. Even drafts are public on Wikipedia (though not indexed by search engines) and so have to have to be at least potentially viable articles. The section on auditor training was possibly the most encyclopaedic part of it but it needs sources that are independent and reliable; Wikipedia is interested in what reputable publications have to say, not what article subjects say about themselves. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 18:13, 26 February 2026 (UTC)[reply] Received, thank you, HJ. One positive from all this is that it has encouraged me to look wider at the scope of the area of standards, certification and auditor training that I am interested in. The current content and structure is very poor, IMHO. I'm not interested in how it got there but want to be part of fixing it. Is there anywhere I can start a conversation for any like-minded contributors? TIA JPaulSimpson (talk) 18:22, 26 February 2026 (UTC)[reply] @JPaulSimpson Not my area of expertise. A friend of mine, Dormskirk, might be able to help or have an idea of where to ask (he was the original author of the HCL Axon article). You could also try looking at article histories and asking editors who have contributed to similar articles. But you might have to just go out and fix things yourself (you'll need reliable sources though, which might be the root cause of the problems). HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 18:32, 26 February 2026 (UTC)[reply] Thanks, HJ. I have started to do as you suggested and am putting some comments on the article talk pages. There are plenty of reliable citations and references, although few get to specific companies like Bywater. Thanks again for your help and advice. User:Ilyasadv123

[edit]

Hi HJ Mitchell. Since you CU-blocked Ilyasadv123 earlier today, I'm wondering whether you'd mind taking a look at Draft:Loc Khuong created on February 21 by the same account. Do you think this draft meets WP:G5? If it does, then the same can probably also be said about File:LocKhuong Professional Photo.jpeg and File:LocKhuong with family 2015.jpeg also uploaded byt he same account. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:23, 26 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Marchjuly. I moved the article back to draft when I was investigating the account. You could make an argument for G5—RedOwl's block came after Ilyasadv123 created that draft but I'm certain there are older accounts. I'm just not sure it's worth the effort. The draft is not indexed, and if nobody shows any interest in it after a few months it will be deleted. The other accounts I blocked at the same time also attempted to write articles and I moved several of those back to draftspace and one was deleted at AfD. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 14:05, 26 February 2026 (UTC)[reply] Thank you for taking a look at this. FWIW, I've got no real opinion on the viability of the draft per se; I only noticed it after tagging some of the files uploaded by that same account with }. The draft and files will eventually deleted per G13 and F5, respectively, if they remain as is. -- Marchjuly (talk) 20:16, 26 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Buzzfunk18

[edit]

Hi HJ. I was looking at the contributions from Buzzfunk18 shortly before you blocked them. I may be missing some context and they aren't good edits, but these edits may be good faith attempts to improve the article to me (i.e., someone trying to add wikitext via the visual editor). Regards. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 17:06, 26 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@Daniel Quinlan I suppose it's possible. I hadn't thought of that explanation. I don't hold out much hope but if you want to unblock or reach out, feel free. Whack!

You've been whacked with a wet trout.

Don't take this too seriously. Someone just wants to let you know that you did something silly.

This got me blocked from adding some pretty crazy usernames to UAA (though it was handled), had me freaking out for a second. LuniZunie(talk) 19:47, 27 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
