The Grampian 23 is a recreational keelboat built by Grampian Marine in Canada between 1971 and 1976 with 450 boats completed.[1][2][3]
Design
[edit]Designed by Alex McGruer, the fibreglass hull has a spooned raked stem, an angled transom, a transom-hung rudder controlled by a tiller and a stub keel with a swing keel, or optional fixed fin keel. It displaces 3,200 lb (1,451 kg) and carries 1,033 lb (469 kg) of lead ballast.[1][2]
The boat has a draft of 5.33 ft (1.62 m) with the swing keel extended and 2.36 ft (0.72 m) with it retracted, allowing operation in shallow water or ground transportation on a trailer.[1][2]
The boat is normally fitted with a small 3 to 6 hp (2 to 4 kW) outboard motor for docking and manoeuvring.[1][2]
The design has sleeping accommodation for five people, with a double "V"-berth in the bow cabin, a dinette table in the main cabin that converts to a double berth and an aft berth on the port side, under the cockpit. The galley is located on the port side amidships. The galley is equipped with a two-burner stove and a sink. The head is located just aft of the bow cabin on the starboard side. Cabin headroom is 64 in (160 cm).[1][2] The cabin has a poptop.[2] The spacious interior means the cockpit is relatively small for the boat's size.[4]
It has a masthead sloop rig. For sailing downwind the design may be equipped with a symmetrical spinnaker.[1][2]
The design has a PHRF racing average handicap of 270 and a hull speed of 6.1 kn (11.3 km/h).[2]
